George Samuel Cann, 92, of Westport, passed away at 3:32 p.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Arbor Grove Village in Greensburg. He was born on February 28, 1933 in Westport, the son of John C. and Marjorie Ellen (Small) Cann. He was a lifelong resident of Westport and was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge #339 in Westport. He graduated from Indiana University with a Master's Degree in Math and Science and taught Math and Science at South Decatur Jr./Sr. High School in Westport and Morton Memorial in Knightstown. George was an animal lover, he enjoyed playing cards and collecting old pictures of the community. He has written 3 history books about Westport. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army. George married Donna J. Wiley on September 24, 1966 at the Westport Christian Church. She preceded him in death on June 19, 2024. He is survived by his daughters, Beth (Art) Pigmon of Westport and Jill (Gary) Guenthenspberger of Hartsville; sister, Ruth (Gene) Clarkson of Westport; 3 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Donna and his sisters, Mary G. Hampton and Lucinda "Rosie" Armand. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Pastor Mike Bartlett officiating. Burial will follow at Westport Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held on Friday, March 7 from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Pets Alive Bloomington through the funeral home.
