Jerome Wraye "Jay" Wright, 57, of Westport, passed away at 12:15 a.m. on Sunday, February 11, 2024. He was born on April 29, 1966, in Columbus, the son of Jasper W. and Connie Arlene (Creamer) Wright. He was raised in Nashville, Bartholomew County and Decatur County. He graduated from South Decatur High School in 1984 and received a bachelor's degree from IU, Arizona State and DeVry Institute of Technology. He received his CDL license and was driving a semi. He was a field service engineer for Fry & Maverick Food & Drug Stores. He was a former member of the Moose Lodge in Greensburg and Columbus, the American Legion in Seymour and former member of Decatur County Conservation Club. Jay was a Veteran having served in the US Army and the US Navy. He enjoyed shooting pool, tractor pulling, camping, and traveling. He married Darlene Nugent on May 17, 2002, in Greensburg, and she survives. Other survivors include his daughters, Kayla Wright (Steve Merriman) of El Mirage, Arizona, and Stephanie (Cameron) Dupuis of Greensburg; his sons, Mark Wright (Ashley Sharp) of Buckeye, Arizona, and Nick Cornett (Minnie Howard) of Westport; his sister, Angela J. Hollin (Jennifer Phillips) of Letts; his brother, Joshua Wayne Wright of Forrest Hill; his grandchildren, Abel Henthorne of Greensburg and Ellie Dupuis of Greensburg; Father-in-law, William Edward Nugent of Westport, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandson, Evan Wright and granddaughter, Melody Henthorne. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 16, 2024, at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home with Pastors Connie Barr and Nate Muncie officiating. Burial will be at the Bear Creek Cemetery with Military graveside rites. A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, February 15 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to help with expenses or the Fisher House, which is connected to the VA Hospital.
