Helen Irene Phillips, 92, of Greensburg, passed away at 6:31 a.m. on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 in Scottsburg. She was born on February 24, 1930 in Goshen, Ohio the daughter of Cecil and Margaret (Schuman) Simmons. She moved to Decatur County when she was 10 years old and was a 1947 graduate of Sandcreek High School. She had worked for 10 years at the telephone company and retired from BCA in 1995 after 20 years of service. She was a member of the Community Church of the Nazarene and the Rodney Wesleyan Church. She had been a Sunday school teacher, supported missionary's and had served as president of the Missionary Society. She enjoyed reading, cooking, baking and going to church events. She loved people and her family and friends. She married Steve Paul Phillips on February 4, 1951 in Greensburg, and he preceded her in death on May 25, 2002. Survivors include her daughters, Karen (Chuck) Sosbe of Kokomo, Patricia Roberts and Susan (Doug) Doles both of Greensburg; sons, Steve T. Phillips (fiancee, Deb Cathcart Bess) of Scottsburg, Timothy J. Phillips of Greensburg and Michael L. Phillips of Westport; 9 grandchildren, Christopher Sosbe, Jennifer Goad, Teresa Baker, Heather Lewis, Anna Lee, Nate Boyd, Misty Moore, Chad Doles and Cassandra Little; 18 great grandchildren, Alex Sosbe, Ryeligh Sosbe, Trevor Goad, Lucy Goad, Cooper Lewis, Xavier Lewis, Jacob Lee, Skylar Lee, Javin Lee, Gracie Boyd, Charles Boyd, Carrera Cameron, Haylie Cameron, Declan Doles, Logan Moore, Evelyn Doles, Bowen Doles and Fiona Doles. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lawrence Simmons, sister, Kathryn Moore and great grandson, Shad Roberts. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Rev. Mike Hopper, Rev. Tony Guy and Rev. Perry Cook officiating. Burial will follow at the Union Baptist Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 25 from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 2:00 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Gideon Bibles or the Rodney Wesleyan Church through the funeral home.
