Sheryl K. Nugent (nee Roberts) 79, formerly of Hope, IN, and Chicago Heights, IL, died in her home in Tucson, AZ, on September 1, 2023, of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Sheryl was born in Columbus, IN, on April 13, 1944. She was a 1962 graduate of Jackson Township High School, attended Purdue University and received a BS in Physical Education from Indiana University. She also earned a Master of Arts degree at Ball State University. Sheryl taught math and P.E. at Hauser Jr. - Sr. High School in Hope and coached many girls' sports teams. She also taught and coached at Shelbyville High School, Shelbyville, IN, and at Lake Station Jr.-Sr. High School, Lake Station, Indiana. Sheryl loved all sports and outdoor activities, especially golf and fishing. In her retirement years in Arizona, she spent many happy days on the golf courses and had recently taken up fly fishing. Travel was another joy and Sheryl had taken several memorable trips with the Indiana University Alumni Association including two cruises through the Panama Canal and a trek to Machu Picchu. Sheryl is survived by her wife, Sandra Wagoner, daughters Sandi Nugent of Indianapolis, Susan Nugent of Hartsville and son Jeffery Nugent of Tucson. She was preceded in death by her parents Helen (Gossett) and George Roberts; her sisters, Janet Kail and Donna Evans. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mercy Home for Boys & Girls, 1140 West Jackson Blvd., Chicago, IL 60607. Friends may visit and reminisce at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home, 402 E Bennett St, Westport, IN, from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 27. Interment will follow at Bear Creek Cemetery, 3945 W 1000 N, Westport, IN.
