Irene Emma Dwiggins, 85, of Westport, passed away at 8:07 p.m. on Friday, September 25, 2020 at home. She was born on June 8, 1935 in Fall River, Massachusetts, the daughter of Joseph A. and Olila (Menard) Watts. She was raised in Fall River and at the age of 16, she went to work at the same dress factory as her mother. Irene met her husband, John, while he was on shore leave while in the Navy. She moved to Indiana to marry her true love on April 19, 1956. She stayed with her husband's parents until he returned from the military. In her early years, as a Decatur County resident, Irene worked at the Silver Dollar Diner which was located where the Honda Credit Union now sits. Irene was known for her amazing cooking, Massachusetts accent and love for her family. She was a member of the Burney Baptist Church and Ladies Auxiliary, Candle lighters Home Economics Club, Lois Chapter # 147, Order of Easter Star, the AMB Senior Citizen Group, Eagles Lodge in Greensburg and Greensburg Power of the Past. She loved the Pacer's, Elvis, playing Euchre, Canasta, dancing, country music, spending time with family, mailing letters to siblings and watching her daytime shows. She is survived by her sons, John Albert (Tammy) Dwiggins, Jr. of Bedford, Joseph L. Dwiggins of Westport, Jerry Lee (Jeanette) Dwiggins and James A. (Kristi) Dwiggins both of Greensburg; her sisters, Jacquelyn Cormier of Summerset, Massachusetts, Dorothy Arruda of Colorado, Bertha Steele of Laurel, Rosemary Lupachini of Dighton, Massachusetts, Susanna (Tom) Thomas of Fall River, Massachusetts; her brothers, James (Josephine) Watts of Summerset, Massachusetts and George (Brenda) Watts of Fall River, Massachusetts; her nine grandchildren, and sixteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John Albert Dwiggins on September 15, 2009; her brothers, Joseph "Tootsie" Watts, Thomas Watts and Edward Watts; her daughter in law, Elizabeth McInteer Dwiggins; her grandson Terry Dwiggins and four brother in laws. The funeral service will be held and webcasted at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Sharp officiating. Burial will be at the Milford Cemetery. Visitation will held on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. with an Order of Eastern Star Service held at 7:00 p.m. We ask visitors to follow social distancing guidelines once inside the funeral home and masks are required.
