Helen Pauline Perkins, 90 of Newbern, passed away at 12:40 a.m. on Saturday, May 29, 2021 at Newbern. She was born on December 14, 1930 in Columbus, the daughter of Lee & Maude (Childers) Burton. She has been a lifelong resident of Newbern and had attended the Rodney Separate Baptist Church. She enjoyed going to garage sales and gardening but most of all she loved seeing her family and great grand kids. She married John Samuel "Sam" Perkins in Bartholomew County on December 27, 1950. He preceded her in death on May 21, 2013. She is survived by her daughter, Sheila (Mike) Moore of North Vernon; her sons, Mark (Yolanda) Perkins of Memphis, Tennessee, Jay Perkins and John (Brenda) Perkins of Newbern; her grandchildren, Doris (Craig) Hooker, Johnny (Lora) Perkins, Tabitha (Eric) Lucas, Samantha (Zach) Greenlee, Luke (Brooke) Perkins, Eli Perkins, Cody Clouse, Emily Perkins, Chris Perkins, Amy Murphy, Anne (Stewart) Daily, April Linne, Kristy Holcomb, Shawn Moore and Jeff Moore; her 30 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sam; her daughter, Shelley Anne Tichenor; her son, Matthew Dale Perkins; her great grandson, Andrew Craig Hooker and 13 brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home with Rev. John Samuel Perkins, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at the Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles. A time of visitation will be held on Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. until time of service at 2:00 p.m. We ask visitors to follow social distancing guidelines once inside the funeral home and masks are recommended.
