Joseph A. Linger, 83, of Westport, passed away at 1:15 p.m. on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 at his residence. He was born on January 23, 1938 in Buckhannon, West Virginia the son of Paul Havard and Evelyn Mae (Clark) Linger. He moved to Greensburg at the age of 15 and has been a resident of Westport since 1986. He graduated from Greensburg High School in 1958. He retired from Cummins Engine Co. in 1994 after 34 years of service. Joe was a member of the Westport Methodist Church, former member of the Eagles Lodge #927, the Moose Lodge #2203 and the Redman Lodge all in Greensburg. He started the AA meetings in Westport. He enjoyed fishing, bowling, softball, and coached Little League in Westport. He married Roberta Ann Simmonds Masterson on May 24, 1980 in Elizabethtown, Indiana and she survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Paula Horan of Westport; sons, Richard (Roberta) Linger of Greensburg, Cole (Gayle) Linger of Noblesville, Danny Linger of Westport, Steve (Kathleen) Masterson of Charleston, South Carolina and John Masterson of Columbus; sister, Crystal (Jeff) Little of Lafayette; 11 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronald Paul Linger and sister, Paulette Hudnall. Funeral services will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, February 8, 2021 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Pastor Dale Boyd. The family will receive visitors on Monday, February 8, 2021 from 4:00 until time of service at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home. We ask visitors to follow social distancing guidelines once inside the funeral home and masks are required. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to Our Hospice.
