James R. Helms, 47, of Westport, passed away at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 8, 2019 at Decatur County Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born on August 24, 1972 in Greensburg the son of Daniel James & Marilyn Marie (Powers) Helms. He was a lifelong resident of Decatur County. He was a member of the ABATE. James enjoyed Rock & Roll music, watching sports especially Colts & NASCAR. He is survived by his parents, Daniel & Marilyn Helms of Westport; daughter, Tori Helms (Hayley Drumm) of Greensburg; sister, Danelle M. Helms of Greensburg; brothers, Scott (Lori) Helms of Greensburg and Tom (Bre) Helms of Westport. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, James Helms & Mary Helms Bennett and Richard & Alma Powers. The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, December 11, 2019 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with cremation to follow. Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Westport Volunteer Fire Dept.
