Robert Wayne 'Bob' Melcher, 72, of Greensburg passed away at 1:37 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at the Methodist Hospital at Indianapolis. He was born November 18, 1946 in Greensburg, the son of Robert & Mildred (Weber) Melcher. He graduated from Greensburg High School in 1965. Bob retired from Cummins after 33 years of service. He worked at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for 43 years and umpired softball for several years. He was a member of the Greensburg and Batesville Masonic Lodges. He was Past Master of the Greensburg Masonic Lodge # 36 F. & A.M. and former Secretary of the Greensburg Masonic Lodge # 36 and Batesville Masonic Lodge # 668. He was a member of the Scottish rite, Shriners, York Rite and the High Twelve. Bob was a Heart Transplant Recipient and a strong advocate for people to sign up and be a donor. He volunteered for the Indiana Donor Network. He married Mary Schwendenman on November 16th, 1991 at St Marys Catholic Church and she survives. Also surviving is his daughters, Kim Pike and Kristine Weber; son, Robert L. Melcher all of Greensburg; his sister, Linda (Don) Haptonstall of Columbus; his brother, Gene Melcher of North Fort Myers, Florida; his grandchildren, Sara Pike and Karter Melcher of Greensburg, Zachary and Nathan Melcher of Mississippi; several nieces and nephews. Bob is also survived by his heart donor family in Knox Indiana. Bobs wishes was to be cremated. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 6, 2019 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. until the start of a Masonic Memorial Service at 3:00 p.m. His friend John Hoagland will be officiating. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children or to the Indiana Donor Network.
