Carl W. Manlief, 75, of Westport, passed away at 8:17 p.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2020 at Columbus Regional Hospital. He was born June 14, 1944 in Westport, the son of Woodrow and Wanda (Huey) Manlief. He has been a lifelong resident of Decatur County and the Westport area. He retired from Cummins Engine Company in 2002 after 38 1/2 years of service. He also has been employed by the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home since 1988. Carl was a member of the Sardinia Baptist Church since 1964 where he has served as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher and Trustee. He was Scout Master of Troop #72 in Sardinia and President of the Decatur County Brotherhood for 2 years. He graduated from Sandcreek High School in 1962. He married Jerilyn Houze in Sardinia, Indiana on August 2, 1964. She preceded him in death on May 20, 2016. He is survived by his daughter, Ardena (Ronnie) Mullikin of North Vernon; his son, Dwight (Mellisa) Manlief of Osgood, his grandchildren, Aaron Amis and Shaylee Mullikin of North Vernon; step grandchildren, Brittany (Andy) Hartley of Versailles and Alyssa (Antwone) Johnson of Sunman. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his sister, Carolyn Martin and his brother, Ralph Manlief. Following his wishes he will be cremated and there will be a graveside service on Monday, May 11, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Westport Cemetery with Rev. Tom Rust officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of South Central Indiana through the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home. Bass & Gasper Funeral Home and Crematory has been entrusted with the arrangements.
