Anna L. Burgess, 91, of Westport, passed away at 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at Aspen Place in Greensburg. She was born on February 14, 1927 in Butlerville, the daughter of J. Emerson & Helen M. (Elliott) Rine. She was born and raised in Butlerville and has been a Decatur County resident since 1946. Ann graduated from Butlerville High School in 1945. Russell & Ann farmed in Decatur County for 28 years before moving to Westport. They enjoyed many years of supporting SDHS students and athletes, He as a bus driver and Anna as a cafeteria employee. She retired in 2000 after 31 years of service as a cook for Decatur County Community Schools. She was a member of the Westport Baptist Church, Order of Eastern Star # 183, Jackson Township Home Ec. Club and Hi Nabor Home Ec. Club. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking pies, euchre club and canasta club. She married Russell P. Burgess on August 8, 1945 in Jennings County and he preceded her in death on January 9, 1993. Survivors include her son, Gordon (Susan) Burgess of Greensburg; her daughters, Jean (Nelson) Ponsler of North Vernon, Jayne (Danny) Gault of Westport and Denise (Alan) Carder of Greensburg; her brother, Harry Rine of North Vernon; her grandchildren, Brad (Emily) Ponsler of North Vernon, Holly (Greg) Huckelberry of Westport, Aaron (Melea) Gault of Greensburg, Aarik (Michelle) Gault of Westport, Hillary (Shilo) Shrader of Greensburg, Stephanie Burgess (Fianceā?? Ben Rohe) of Georgetown, Texas, Kyle Carder of Greensburg and Kayla Carder of Greensburg and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; infant son, Dennis Eugene Burgess; brothers, Ralph Rine and Frank Rine; half-sister, Mary Rine Rees; half-brothers, Lloyd Rine, John Rine and Charles Rine. The funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Rev. David A. Scaggs officiating. Burial will follow at Butlerville Cemetery. A time of visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Westport Baptist Church Building Fund or Our Hospice of Decatur County.
