George Albert Follmer, Sr., 78 of Greensburg, passed away at 5:50 p.m. on Wednesday, August 21, 2019 at Morning Breeze Healthcare Center. He was born on April 18, 1941 in Batesville, the son of Fred A. & Dora A. (Bare) Follmer. He was a former resident of Osgood and Versailles and had been a resident of Greensburg for the past 10 years. He was employed in transportation at New Horizons in Batesville from 1990-2005 having retired after 15 years of service. George was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army from 1963-1965. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, being outdoors and playing the piano. He married Sherry Jane McKown on August 22, 1970 in Osgood, and she survives. Other survivors include his daughters, Sandy (Jason) Fry and Alice (Nick) Colson both of Greensburg and Samantha (John) Harrod of North Vernon; sons, Gregg (Jenny) Follmer of Greensboro, North Carolina and George "Jr" (Leslie) Follmer of Greensburg; sisters, Martha Comer of Greensburg and Ruth (John) Gamboa of Greenwood; 21 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mary McDonough and Emma Hunt and granddaughter, Marissa Colson. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at St. Peter’s United Church of Christ in Osgood with Pastor Doug Preston officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery. The family will receive visitors on Saturday, August 24, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to St. Peter’s United Church of Christ or Lifeline Wesleyan Church. Bass & Gasper Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
