Mary Delores Shafer, 77, of Greensburg, passed away at 2:15 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 at Heritage House Nursing Home in Greensburg. She was born on February 24, 1942 in Shelby County, the daughter of Joseph and Delores (Eaken) Bullard. She had been a Decatur County resident the majority of her life. She had worked as a nurse's aide at Decatur County Memorial Hospital and also at Columbus Regional Hospital. She had also worked as a home health care aide for the elderly, and had worked in the kitchen at Decatur County Memorial Hospital and in the kitchen at South Decatur Elementary School. She was a member of the Flat Rock Baptist Church and had read the Bible though six times. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening and playing Bingo. She married John Arnold Shafer in Hope on June 29, 1961 and he preceded her in death on June 21, 2009. Survivors include her daughter, Carol (Ray, Jr.) Shafer-Zapfe and granddaughter, Shelby Brooke (Jason, Jr.) Zapfe-Adams both of Westport; sisters, Cindy Ward of Hayden and Doris Konegincramer of New Point; brother, Dan Bullard of Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Susie Eichorn, Betty Devlin and Jackie Bullard; brothers, Steve & Mike Bullard. Following her wishes there will be no service and she will be cremated.
