Orell Hampton, 82, of Westport, passed away at 3:37 a.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at his residence. He was born on November 7, 1936 in Whitesburg, Kentucky, the son of Patrick and Callie (Gilley) Hampton. He was born and raised in Whitesburg, Kentucky and has been a Westport resident since 1980. He was a graduate of Whitesburg High School. Orell retired from Cummins Engine Co. in 1990 after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Westport Masonic Lodge # 52 F.& A.M. and was a veteran having served with the U.S. Army. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren. He married Mary E. Cash in Tennessee on August 18, 1984 and she survives. Other survivors include his daughter, Teresa (Tom) Banister of Columbus; his son, Randy (Shannon) Hampton of Columbus; his step son, Richie (Trinda) Tungate of Westport; his brother, Steve Hampton of Westport and his 9 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Arvis Hampton, Telmage Clem and Emery Hampton. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home in Westport with Pastor Dale Lucas officiating. Burial will follow at the Westport Cemetery with military graveside rites. The family will receive visitors on Monday, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home with a Masonic Memorial service at 7:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the American Cancer Society or the Westport Masonic Lodge # 52 F.& A.M.
