Tom W. Young, 77, of Greensburg, passed away at 1:02 a.m. on Monday, January 14, 2019 at IU Methodist in Indianapolis. He was born on April 18, 1941 in Decatur County, the son of John H. and Lavonne (Stapp) Young. He was a lifelong resident of Decatur County and graduated from Sandcreek High School in 1959. He was an owner of Obermeyer & Young in Greensburg since 1983 and retired in 2009. He attended Mt. Aerie Baptist Church and he enjoyed gardening and camping. He married G. Ann Bates on September 6, 1960 in Greensburg and she survives. Also surviving are daughters, Lavonna (Rick) Thompson of North Vernon and Sherry (Rob) Grimes of Greensburg; three grandchildren, Michael (Livia) Grimes of Greensburg, Derek (Ashley Bilen) Grimes of Indianapolis and Branden (Chelsey) Thompson of North Vernon; and four great grandchildren, Rylee Grimes, Mikaela Grimes, Addy Thompson and Cal Thompson. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Friday January 18, 2019 at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Maynard officiating. Burial will be at the Mt. Aerie Cemetery in Letts. A time of visitation will be held from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 17, 2019 at the funeral home.
