Kathleen Gatewood, 86, of Westport, passed away at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, January 7, 2019 at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis. She was born on June 15, 1932 in Laurel County, Kentucky, the daughter of Gilbert and Stella (Gilbert) Asher. She moved to Indiana at age 7 and had resided here since. She had worked for Delta Faucet Company for 22 years. She was a 30 year member of the Rebecca’s Lodge and was a member of the Fredonia Community Church. She enjoyed working puzzles and word searches and was an avid reader of the North Vernon paper. She married Floyd Gatewood on August 20, 1949 in Louisville, Kentucky. He preceded her in death on March 26, 2008. She is survived by her daughters, Shirley (Paul) Wallace of Hope and Donna Hewitt of Westport; son, Daniel (Colleen) Gatewood of Westport; ten grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Debora Gatewood; son, David Gatewood; sisters, Ann Cobb, Stella Bagwell, Marie Asher, Rita Muckerheide and Evaleen Gatewood; brothers, Robert, John, Gilbert and Earl Asher. Funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, January 11, 2019 at Bass & Gasper Funeral Home with Rev. Connie Barr officiating. Burial will follow at the Westport Cemetery. Friends may call at the Bass & Gasper Funeral Home on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Westport Volunteer Fire Department through the funeral home.
